Founded by Alvarez and García in 1875, Romeo y Julieta is developed starting from 1903 when it is acquired by Pepín Fernández Rodríguez. He was an indefatigable traveler, made compete his horse "Julieta" for all Europe and he produced the most varied selection of rings personalized for the celebrities of his time. At one point, Romeo Y Julieta were producing cigars under 20,000 individual bands! These are one of the most well-known and popular of all the Havana brands. Over 40 shapes and sizes are produced under this brand, some of which are considered the very best in their size.
With so many different sizes and so much pressure on production due to worldwide demand, it is especially impressive that the entire brand continues to be appreciated as one of absolutely top quality. Romeo Y Julietas are mild- to medium-bodied (by Cuban standards), with a delicate balance of warm, complex flavours that tend toward a sweet spiciness with a good earthy core, and often a long, even leathery finish. Of particular repute are the Churchill sizes. As always, a large box (25 or 50) of untubed cigars (there are many tubed versions) is your best choice, though Romeo Y Julieta tubed cigars are among the best available.
